Beaker of Rostock tanners
- Rostock
- 1583
- tin
- height: 34 cm
The beaker was a guild object from the rich tanners’ office and was used for social rituals such as drinking. The balanced shape of the beaker with the emphasis on the lines on the body and the steady swing of the handle are typical characteristics of the Renaissance. The inscription reads: “DIT IS DE LOGARVER ER STOP 1583”. At the top there is an engraving of a bearded man with a hat, cloak and ram – the guild symbol of the tanner.
