Ceremonial axe

The ceremonial axe from Hermannshagen belongs to the group of Fårdrup axes, named after a discovery site in Denmark. This one is believed to be an import from southern Scandinavia. The inspiration for the design of this axe originated in the region of Transylvania in eastern Hungary. The hatched triangles and the solar motif with a solid bulge in the centre, also the find site, suggest that it was used in cult rituals.
