Cigar holder
- Japan
- wood
- black lacquer, lacquer painting
- mid-19th century
- height: 33 cm
The cigar holder is activated by twisting the upper knob on the case. This opens four winged doors whose outsides are decorated with photographs.
On the inside of the doors there are metal rings, into which the cigars are inserted.
Mementoes of this kind, owned by a seafarer from Darß, were used at home as a show of sophistication and as testimonies to a life spent travelling.
