Coffee grinder with brass decoration
- iron, brass, wood
- 1st half of 19th century
- height: 22 cm
The square coffee grinder has an iron body with a drawer. Its four outer faces are decorated with sheet brass cut into flower and heart motifs. Coffee was bought as raw beans, generally self-roasted and also ground. Coffee has been a widely disseminated luxury drink since around 1800 that also often symbolises idleness in contemporary depictions.
