Crest of Adolf I. Frederick, King of Sweden

Bild
  • produced by Christian Benjamin Grünwald in Greifswald
  • limewood in a colourful setting
  • 1758
  • height: 125 cm

This crest adorns the manorial court building in Greifswald. From 1657, the manorial court is the highest judicial body in Swedish-Pomerania, where it administers Swedish law. It is competent to rule on the affairs of the aristocracy, members of the royal household, aliens, on political crimes, disturbances of the peace, serious crimes, the rights of the king, issues of serfdom and on matters of the university. It is also the court of appeal for civil and criminal proceedings for members of the estates and subjects of the cities.

The president, five assessors and two articled clerks pass judgement on six days of the year. The court moved to the building on Domstraße, which still stands there today, in 1710.
