Crown pommel for a sword
- partially gilded silver
- start of 9th century
- Rostock-Dierkow
- length: 10 cm
The finely worked pommel with very beautiful decorative plants and border alludes to highly developed silversmith craft. The object, which was hidden in a leather bag in the settlement for traders and craftsmen in Dierkow, also has other silver components of a sword receptacle. Its precious metal finish and high quality workmanship differ greatly from that found on other weapons at that time.
