The dragoon helmet was introduced with a brigade order from 24th February 1848. They received nickel silver shiny helmets with a yellow trim, which incorporated the Mecklenburg coat of arms into the badge. The peak made from a small ball symbolised affiliation to the infantry. For parades the helmet was decorated with white horsehair plumes or red for trumpeters.
