Model of the "Fritz Heckert" ship
- around 1960
- painted wood
- length: 140 cm
After the end of the Second World War, a repair yard for repair services for the Soviet Union was built in Wismar. New ships were launched only a few years after it was founded. The “Fritz Heckert,” a GDR holiday ship, was one of the new ships built in 1960. It travelled to ports in the Baltic Sea and Mediterranean. After the construction of the Berlin Wall on 13th August 1961 the ship only sailed to socialist countries, as many passengers had previously taken the opportunity to flee. It was taken out of service after only 9 years.
