Gerhart Hauptmann's wine cellar at his summer house on Hiddensee is legendary and a popular place to visit, then as now. The writer purchased his wines from the Baden region. A saying emerged on Hiddensee during his lifetime: The summer starts when Hauptmann's wine delivery arrives and ends when it's empty. The house is still stocked with wine from the same region and of the same sort that Hauptmann preferred – as confirmed by the order slips preserved by the vineyard in question.
