Revised Church Order for the Duchy of Mecklenburg (1602)
- Lüneburg
- 1602
The Church Order was revised by David Chyträus, the Rostock theologian and university professor. For the first time children’s schools were required in villages and established in a binding manner.
“In the villages the pastors and their wives should run schools and teach all boys and girls about catechisms, praying, reading and sewing, so that these young people will not grow up to be unreasonable creatures […] The pastors in the villages should seriously urge the farming people and their families to send their children to school out of respect for God and for their own salvation.”
