Spoon from the Anklam guild treasury

- silver
- 16th century
- length: 29 cm
- donated by the State Office for Culture and Heritage
The name David Sch. Röder is engraved on the back of this silver spoon, which features a artistically adorned shaft. A small, moulded and winged head is located on the upper section of the hexagonal shaft – a decorative feature typical of the Renaissance. The shaft thickens before transitioning into the ladle rim, where it has ornaments in the manner of reliefs. The drop-like shape of the rim is a typical period piece.
In this form, the spoon will have been a commissioned item of jewellery, possibly intended as a heirloom ('den Löffel abgeben' - to pass on the spoon, a colloquial expression for dying in German). It originates from a treasure discovered 1995 during building work on the property at Wollweberstraße 42.
