Tea and coffee set
- Leuchtenburg
- porcelain
- circa 1925
The tea set belongs to Gerhart Hauptmann's summer house on Hiddensee.
The playwright observed a strict daily structure when on the island. He would rise around six and swim in the Baltic Sea every (!) day. He then had breakfast and afterwards went on a protracted and, as he called it, 'productive walk', during which he prepared his dictation for the afternoon. After lunch he took a long nap. Gerhart Hauptmann's afternoons would begin with coffee, while his wife preferred tea. A second phase of productive work then followed, and in the evening he entertained visitors. The summer house was furnished to satisfy all of these routines.
