Uniform of an aircraft captain from INTERFLUG spray plane department (GDR)
- Kröpelin
- 1980s
- length at back: 70 cm
The uniform belonged to the aircraft captain from the INTERFLUG spray plane department, Hermann Steglich from Kröpelin. It was worn for official occasions or celebrations.
Unusual conditions, up to 80 take-offs and landings per day, bumpy airfields, flying altitudes of often only three metres were part of daily life for the “spray plane pilots.” The aeroplanes were used for crop spraying, spreading manure, plant protection products or sowing seeds.
The “business flight” operating section was created during the set-up of air transportation companies in the GDR in 1955. This became known as the spray plane department (from 1968).
With the end of the GDR the spray plane lost its significance in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania through the restructuring of agriculture.
