Elaborate jewellery works and representations of people and animals were handed down from Germanic peoples and Slavs. Some of them are believed to depict divinities. One of the most important traditions is the Hiddensee treasure (all gold) – probably made by the Vikings. Megalithic tombs and hill fort complexes may be the oldest forms of architecture. There is evidence of wooden temples. Construction of a cathedral in Cammin begins in 1175.
