The dynasty of the Mecklenburg Dukes was also named after their Slavic ancestors Niklot and Pribislav. The ruling dynasty is one of the oldest and most stable in Germany. During the revolution in 1918 they renounced the throne and the male line died out in 1996. Since then the 'House of Mecklenburg' has been ruled for the first time by a woman – Duchess Donata of Mecklenburg.

The dynasty of the 'House of Griffin' in Pomerania has Slavic roots. The first historically recorded duke is Wartislaw I. On several occasions the land is divided between several concurrent rulers. Pomerania-Wolgast and Pomerania-Stettin show the greatest longevity. The line of the Pomeranian dukes comes to an end in 1637 with the death of Bogislaw XIV. Pomerania is then divided between Sweden and Prussia.
