One State Museum for Mecklenburg and Western Pomerania
Although virtually neighbours in more than just a geographical sense, the regions of Mecklenburg and Western Pomerania developed differently for many centuries from the Middle Ages onward. The Virtual State Museum of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern traces this very special history using carefully selected exhibits from around 50 museums run by private, municipal and state organisations. These regions did not merge until after 1945.
The museum uses the versatile opportunities for displaying its exhibits in a virtual environment on the Internet. For instance, more than half of the over 400 objects shown here can be inspected in two zoom levels and rotated 360° around their own axis. This enables a closer and more intense experience of these outstanding testimonies to the state history(ies) of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern – be it out of pure inquisitiveness, to prepare lessons, for professional research or other reasons.
The Virtual State Museum of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern is a joint project by Stiftung Mecklenburg (Schwerin) and the Museumsverband in Mecklenburg-Vorpommen e.V. (Rostock). It was launched as the Virtual State Museum of Mecklenburg on 4 December 2014 and has included the entire federal state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern since 13 May 2018.
